Getting paid advice
For complex decisions you may want a licensed financial adviser. Before engaging one:
- Check they are licensed on ASIC’s Financial Advisers Register.
- Ask how they are paid and for the fees in writing, up front.
- Ask whether advice is general or personal (personal advice must consider your situation).
- Your super fund may offer low-cost advice about your super at no extra charge.
No legitimate government service asks for your TFN, passwords or banking logins by text, email or a call you did not start. Ignore “get-rich” offers and pressure to act fast. Report scams to Scamwatch. If you have been scammed, contact your bank immediately and report it - fast action can sometimes recover funds.
